Hollywood, one of the most desired places for any cinephile for decades, is currently in its darkest days. Generations have grown up witnessing the legacy which Hollywood has created  and maintained over the years. Spectacular movie series, shows, dramas, animations, advertisements and television sitcoms have been produced and worked upon under the prominence of Hollywood and its famous stars. Undoubtedly, for many years, Hollywood has created the best movies of all time, such as the Harry Potter series, The Godfather, Casablanca and Avatar. However, the golden era is now on the verge of collapsing, and Hollywood is no longer the same as it has been.

Ever since the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, there seems to be a consensus among fans that Hollywood has started facing a creative block. The viewers seem unhappy with constant remakes, spin-offs or similar stories, which is why they complain about the decline in the quality Hollywood has been known for over the years. Such a decline in creativity has also impacted the viewer and audience rate of one of the best film industries in the world, as noted by a study done by Purbilate.

Putting the movie industry aside for now, Purbalite also states that the television sitcoms in Hollywood are facing a similar backlash. The viewers do not seem to enjoy the new television programs, which are largely remakes or something else unoriginal. They miss the essence of Hollywood of the past, which produced some of the most well-loved sitcoms of all time, such as Madmen, Modern Family and The Big Bang Theory. People believe this change to be something uncertain and unimaginable, considering the legacy which Hollywood built over the years till now.

In anticipation of overpowering the original, Hollywood directors have started working on remakes that largely aren’t successful. One of the remakes of the original Pink Panther, made in 1963, was released in 2006 with the same name. The legendary 1963 pink panther was truly one of the best movies ever and was also converted into an animated show in the late 1960s turned out to be one of the worst remakes ever in 2006. The comic drama, which the 1960s audience should have enjoyed, was hated by them the most. Unfortunately, reasons like the plot twist, the cast and the performances brought down the primary cinematic feel that the original Pink Panther brought along. Sadly, the much-loved animation stands in the list of ‘one of the worst reboots ever’, which has been rated genuinely by the American audience.

Another example of a lousy remake is the famous Knight Rider, a 1982 TV series produced by NBC. The 80s show welcomed a comeback but did not air for very long and went off-air after it received poor ratings from the viewers. Due to the same reason, The Knight Rider show also made it to the list of the worst remakes ever. A very recent example, “How I Met Your Father”, which happens to be a spin-off of the famous “How I Met Your Mother,” is a major dislike by the original audience. Most of the viewers who loved HIMYM have sincerely disliked the new spin-off, which was showcased on-air in 2021. The story, though different from the original, happens to be quite predictable for the original HIMYM audiences. With modern elements and the inclusion of modern dating displayed in the show, How I Met Your Father failed to please most millennials, who were the initial audiences of the famous HIMYM.

The declining creativity in the world-famous film and television industry can be a significant concern in the future if it gets neglected in the present. With constantly emerging remakes, the thought of something new, fresh and the original seems lost. Besides, with evolving generations and gripping technology, now is the perfect time for Hollywood to welcome the most remarkable audiences by creating niche-specific shows, movies, and even music albums. To fill these loopholes, welcoming new talents could be a fresh start for Hollywood and a pathway to regaining all the lost fame from the past months or even years.

Something as unexpectedly memorable as the Spider-Man series or the gripping Star Wars is what Hollywood seems to be still capable of. Come what may, it can be truly said and believed that Hollywood is still an undying dream for many.
