Caitlin Daley. Remember the name. Representing the goalkeeper position and playing all 1,440 minutes in the 2023 season, she has started the 2024 season even stronger. Daley helped the Chargers bring home a senior day win against Southern Connecticut State University, (SCSU) the team’s first win against SCSU in eight years. Her season-best 10 saves during that game and another shutout against Felician University earlier in the week earned her Northeast-10 (NE-10) Goalkeeper of the Week. Caitlin’s grit and determination following a meager three-win season in 2023 put her on the watch list for relentless Charger women athletes.
2023 Athletic Accolades: NE10 All-Rookie Team for her freshman year, 26 starts out of a 33-game season, finished second on the team for kills and service aces, and, oh yes, an NE10 championship ring to top it off. Not listed, an honor-roll student and a bubbly personality. Grace has continued to show her strength on the court in the 2024 season by earning Northeast 10 Player of the Week in a 3-0 week for the Chargers, where Juergens posted a double-double in one of those wins with 13 kills and 12 digs for her team. Continue to follow Juergens and the Women’s Volleyball Team on their journey to another conference championship.
Despite tough losses early in the season to four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams, New Haven Women’s Field Hockey is a fierce team that brings energy every day. They are two for two in conference play and have shown the grit needed to take over the other nine conference games left in the season.
Yes, the University of New Haven has Women’s Tennis. And no, don’t challenge them to a game just because you play tennis for fun in the summer or like ping pong. This group of women is 6-0 against all rivals, including 5-0 in conference play, not to mention three regional champions in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) event earlier this month. Both Karim Carreras and Valentinna Ferrarini, pictured above, won the doubles title while Risako Umekuni, a senior for the Chargers, won the singles championship against her own teammate. Keep an eye out for these ballers this fall.
